A Colorado trail race series

Welcome to
Yay Ultra

Yay Ultra puts on low-key, well-run trail races close to home: backyard ultras, loop courses, and the kind of start line where first-timers and veterans line up side by side.

The series

Races

One in the books, more on the way. New races get announced here first.

The format

What's a backyard ultra?

The simplest race there is, and one of the hardest. It rewards patience and consistency over raw speed, and there's no finish line until everyone else stops.

1

One loop, every hour

Each lap (a "yard") is about 4.17 miles. Every runner starts together at the top of the hour.

2

Finish before the bell

Get back before the next hour starts. Rest, refuel, and line up again.

3

Last one standing

Miss a start and you're out. The last runner to complete a loop alone wins.

4

Every lap counts

One loop is a great day. Seven is a marathon and then some. Twenty-four is 100 miles. Go as far as you want.

See you at the start line.

New races, registration openings, and volunteer calls get posted on Instagram first.
